It is customary to mark the Buddha’s birthday (Wesak, Vesak) by making gifts to others. I have decided to make a special donation to charity. I have chosen to support the Ani Choying Drolma Nun’s Welfare Foundation of Nepal.
The Foundation does all sorts of good works: educates girls, cares for elderly people, helps with recycling and fresh water projects, supports animal welfare and has plans to build a hospital to provide specialist care for kidney diseases (very common cause of illnesses in Nepal).
Ani (the title means ‘Sister’) Choying Drolma is a charismatic leader of her community. She has a beautiful singing voice and gives fund-raising concerts around the world. You can find clips of her singing on YouTube. You can buy CDs of her singing from the nuns’ website (another income stream to support their various good works).
